Description

Abstract

The rapid evolution of artificial intelligence (AI) tools for language teaching and learning has significant implications for the professional development of teachers and the training of learners. AI tools have the potential to offer adaptive, personalized language learning experiences, but at the same time, they are also reshaping the skills and knowledge required by teachers to effectively integrate these technologies. This chapter examines both the professional development of teachers and the preparation of learners within AI-driven learning environments. It outlines the essential skills teachers must develop to use AI ethically and innovatively, focusing on areas like data literacy, ethical responsibility, and adaptable teaching methods. The chapter also discusses strategies for training learners to become independent and proficient in AI-enhanced learning, highlighting the importance of digital literacy and critical thinking. The chapter concludes with a discussion of the mutually influential roles of teacher professional development and learner training, emphasizing the need for a collaborative and reflective approach to make the most of emerging AI tools.
